What will the Family Life Education and Community Center Campus mean to east side residents?
Despite the economic gains of the 1990's, San Antonio's east side continues to lag behind the rest of the city in major socio-economic indicators, such as per capita and median incomes, educational attainment, and employment levels. Furthermore, east side crime statistics are higher than those of the city as a whole.

The center campus will help residents of the east side to compete economically and educationally with the rest of San Antonio. It will allow families and individuals to grow in mind, body, and spirit. It will give residents first-class facilities for physical fitness activities, meetings and entertaining. The campus will be unmatched on the east side in terms of the comprehensive array of services that will be offered.

It will allow for collaborations with other public and private agencies to provide effective partnerships that address the needs of east side residents - and it will serve as one of the major anchors to the east side's revitalization.

How will funds raised for the Capital Campaign be used?

Funds for the campaign will be used for building construction, to purchase equipment and furnishings, and to create an endowment for center programs. The total cost of the campaign is $7 million. Land acquisition and construction costs will require $5 million, equipment and furnishings cost will require $1 million, and an endowment totaling $1 million will be established.

Are memorial opportunities available?

Yes, several levels of named giving opportunities will be available. For smaller gifts, brick pavers may be purchased and inscribed with the names of loved ones. For intermediate gifts, a "legacy tree" in memory of family and friends will be displayed. Leaves engraved in gold, silver, or copper may be purchased for the tree, as well as stones to be placed under the tree. For large gifts, naming opportunities for various parts of the campus are available.

Can I donate to ACTN through my employer's giving campaign?

Some companies now are allowing their employees to designate their charitable payroll deductions to the non-profit organization of their choice.

Since 2001 ACTN has participated in the giving campaigns of: Allstate Insurance, SBC and Bank of America. In 2003 ACTN was added to the Combined Federal Campaign list of agencies. The list of participating employers will continue to increase. You should contact your company's Human Resources department to find out if ACTN can receive your charitable contributions and whether the company will match your donation.

When will the results of this campaign be seen?

Ground breaking for the campus occurred on October 26, 2003. Construction of the sports complex will commenced in March 2004. Construction is scheduled to take 12 months. The grand opening of the sports complex is scheduled for April30th 2005.
